Forensic Medicine Department

Forensic medicine brings the investigative capabilities of modern medicine to aid law and justice. Different countries have different legal systems, broadly divided into criminal and civil areas. The systems have generally evolved over many years or centuries and are influenced by a wide variety of factors including culture, religion, and politics. Most doctors working in Primary, Secondary, and Specialized healthcare are obligated to do medicolegal work along with postmortems. The diversity of medicolegal work ranges from doctors working at the level of the BHU to the emergency departments of tertiary care hospitals. The country's prevailing law and order situation puts an additional demand for training medical graduates in Forensic medicine. The Forensic Medicine Department provides an opportunity for medical students to learn legal aspects of medicine and basic principles to conduct autopsies and training as to how medico-legal cases are documented.
